The Basics

The Greens have always been there; protecting the environment, supporting public schools, public transport, public land and standing up for marriage equality and the rights of women.

How the Greens principles are used to drive progress in Sydney:

ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY

Promoting visionary planning by elevating integrated public transport, cycleways and pedestrian networks, preserving open space and promoting biodiversity, educating citizens to grow local produce and promote 100% renewable energy in developments and reduce the need for artificial cooling and heating.

SOCIAL EQUALITY AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE

Introducing interventionalist policy initiatives to increase affordable housing stock and release vacant properties into the rental market, Council run initiatives to assist with indigenous, multicultural, homeless and LGBTI equality, aged care facilities and access to justice, Healthy lifestyle education to children and parents and an extension of means-tested legal aid.

GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY

The Greens practice grassroots democracy, and with an extensive membership network in Sydney, any member can influence policy through their local group. Citizens and non-members can engage in this process through members to put forward their ideas. This is unlike any other political party.

PEACE, DISARMAMENT AND NON-VIOLENCE

The Greens support the decriminalisation of drug possession for personal use, an increase in funding for mental health programmes, and educational programmes aimed at the cause of all forms of anti-social behaviour. We aso support the defunding of military capital investment programmes.
